Once a year NHL University of Applied Sciences presents the NHL Academy Award. A lot of students work on ambitious and entrepreneurial projects during for example their internship or a minor. NHL University of Applied Sciences created the NHL Academy Award to give these projects a chance in the spotlights. This year 49 projects were registered for the Award by students or employees. Last Friday, the 27th of April, 10 nominees were chosen by the jury. These 10 nominees, including NHL Solarboat Racing, will battle for the NHL Academy Award and the corresponding prize money. Today video footage for a promotion trailer was recorded which will be used for our campaign. The 10th of May there will be a small press conference and presentation of all the nominees, and on the 22th of May the Award Show will take place.
Since a week we have a 3D printer at the place where we work. This 3D printer is the property of the NHL Center of Expertise in Computer Vision but because one of the team members did a lot of projects there, the team can use it. With this 3D printer you can print 3D models with a maximum height, width or length of 20 cm. The printer prints the 3D model one layer at a time from the bottom to the top using melted plastic. A lot of students and employees, who have never seen the printer, are attracted by it. We use this printer to print 3D scale models of the A-class boat from 6 to 18 cm. Besides the smaller scale models we will try to make a scale model of more or less 60 cm by printing it in several pieces. This larger scale model can also be used during presentations at places where the real boat can’t be brought.
